Sonia Lopez, MD, FASAM, is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. She has worked in the addiction field for more than 30 years. She has significant experience in using the three medications approved for treatment of opioid dependence with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).Her background is in Family Medicine. Dr Lopez graduated from medical school at SUNY at Stony Brook and completed her residence in Family Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in the Residency Program for Social Medicine. She is presently Chief Medical Officer of Damian Family Care Centers.
Dr Lopez has worked in all phases of addiction medicine treatment- drug-free outpatient, inpatient detox, residential treatment, opioid treatment programs and now is working in an Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) setting in a Federally Qualified Health Center (DAMIAN FCC). She is very interested in training primary care providers to prescribe MAT. She has served in the COMPA board since 2013.
