hosted symposium on opioid crisis for more than 150 providers and policymakers
NEW YORK, NEW YORK (June 18, 2025) — New York treatment providers and policymakers met Tuesday, June 17, to explore how to adapt and maximize patient care in the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) at a symposium hosted by Coalition of Medication-Assisted Treatment Providers and Advocates of New York State (COMPA). The symposium, titled, “Maximizing Patient Care in an Evolving Treatment Landscape,” was held at Northwell’s Zucker Hillside Hospital and featured presentations by Chinazo Cunningham, MD — NYS OASAS Commissioner; Mark Parrino, MA — President American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence; and Allegra Schorr, President, COMPA.
“New York remains entrenched in the opioid epidemic and reporting shows that, in New York City alone, one person dies from a drug overdose every four hours,” said Ms. Schorr. “As we learn how to respond and adapt to new and potential changes in regulations, policies, and funding, collaboration is essential. This symposium provided an opportunity for all hands to be on deck, and all voices to be heard.”
