MEDIA ALERT – New York providers and policymakers analyze transformations in the treatment of OUD made possible by new SAMHSA regulations

When: Thursday, October 10, 2024, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EDT

Where: Conifer Park: Addiction Treatment Drug & Alcohol Detox & Rehab Center In Glenville, New York — 79 Glenridge Road, Glenville, NY 12302

What: COMPA Symposium: Adapting to New Regulations  Host = COMPA (Coalition of Medication Assisted Treatment Providers and Advocates); www.compa-ny.org

Why: SAMHSA’s new rules change the way Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment is provided! Transformations in the treatment of OUD have been made possible by new federal regulations from the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  New York State is expected to align completely with the modernized and less restrictive regulations that include increased access to take-home medications and expanded use of telehealth for medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD).  Implementation calls for experts to share their knowledge and strategies in order to best navigate the ever-changing treatment landscape.

Event Summary:

Providers and policymakers will analyze the implementation of 42 CFR Part 8 methadone regulations, the first major updates to patient care in Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) across the country in more than 20 years.  Join key providers and policymakers to discuss:

• How to implement changes to federal regulations in OTPs;

• How to build therapeutic patient relationships;

• How to comply with DEA guidelines for OTPs.

Symposium presentations and interactive panel discussions will address key topics such as health equity and racial disparities that may hinder access to treatment for substance use disorder (SUD); health-related social needs as provided for by New York’s groundbreaking Section 1115 Medicaid waiver; risks versus benefits when determining take-home flexibilities for methadone; and effective patient engagement with counseling as part of overall treatment.
